Is there not a properly-powered study that’s used a testosterone-only control? It seems like a big enough topic that I’d expect it, even if it’s not standard “we only bring humans up to baseline” biomedical research. Generally you only see the type of relying on one crappy paper phenomenon when it’s the outlier.

Honestly, I’m pretty unconvinced by appeals to the fulfillment of going to the gym. I know it is fulfilling to some guys, and it’s likely worth trying, but there’s a reason I stopped going every time I started and why I stopped playing sports once it was no longer convenient. It might even be a minority who find it to be a worthwhile investment of time compared to other potentially-fulfilling interventions, at least when only considering fulfillment. I was expecting, and would find compelling, an argument about how this would potentially cause an even more severe version of the weak tendons problem as muscle enhancements get ever-further from naturalistic scenarios.
